About the organisation

Organisation Name : Royal Flying Doctor Service (VIC)

The organisation

When people talk about the Flying Doctor, thoughts generally turn to red-bellied planes undertaking rescue missions in the Outback. However, the current Victorian story is one that reflects today's challenges for people living in remote and rural communities across the state. While we do still transport people by air and by road, this work is complemented by a range of primary health services that address the most common issues people living in country Victoria face when accessing health care.

Our services:

  • Help overcome the burden of distance
  • Enable people to receive care in their own community
  • Help people take control of their own health
  • Help overcome isolation.

The Program:

The Look! Up in the Sky Education Program is an online teaching resource and an incursion program that brings geography & history to life through stories of the Royal Flying Doctor Service. It also teaches important health messaging delivered through our primary health programs and it helps to achieve our vision of improving health outcomes.

With a focus on Primary aged children, the program engages both students & teachers through short films, a virtual museum, photos and project materials.

Students are also encouraged to explore and role-play in a life sized model on an RFDS plane – the simulator and learn about what we do.
